A blogging revival

Blogging eh? Remember that? Back in early 2011 everyone was doing it, and now hardly anyone even knows what a blog is! I'm here to tell you that the blog is not dead. Long live the blog! etc.

So, you're asking yourself "how is Tinners' quest to become a gold league SC2 player going?", "He must be there by now? or at least silver?" "Surely? Bronze league is reserved for noobs, nerf accounts and Command & Conquer players right?" Erm, well lets move on to that later.

I've moved! To what is arguably the spiritual centre of Starcraft in Europe, Brighton. How can I substantiate this claim? I refer you to figure 1.

Figure 1 - progamer central

Demuslim, TLO, Stephano, WhiteRa, Thorzain. These are some of the best SC2 players the EU servers have to offer. Being (loosely) central to this cluster of talent, my shortcomings will soon be a thing of the past.

And I've been watching tournaments. All of them. MLG, NASL, GSL, TSL, IPL. And not just watching, I've been studying. Soaking up strategy, getting inside the progamer mind. Do I follow the metagame? I AM THE METAGAME!

Yes thats right, despite all of this I'M STILL IN BRONZE LEAGUE. That's not to say i'm not playing better. My macro, good. My micro...is getting there. In straight up matches i'm generally dominating. My losses are mainly coming from two things; cheese and harrassment.

Now i'm going to ignore cheese because it makes me very angry to even think about it. I've said some things i'm ashamed of. Not xbox live teenager levels of language, but stuff that shouldn't find its way into the respectable esports community. Seriously, people who cheese need to look at themselves in the mirror and ask, "why am I such a dick?"
Harassment, on the other hand, I'm a big fan of. I have learnt that it is the key to winning. And often in my case, losing. A couple of reapers, mutalisks, void rays and I am totally thrown off my game. However, recently I have been remembering to do some harassment of my own, and as long as I do it before them, I win. It's shown in my league position.

Top of the league. I'm currently playing pretty much exclusively silver and gold league players, which can only mean one thing: promotion is within my grasp.

Check back next time for hopefully some exciting news.

ALSO: I'm going to Dreamhack Winter 2011 next week! And I am determined not to potentially meet these legends of esports (Day9 is going to be there! Frikking DAY9!) as a bronze league player.

#010 More Vlogging...

In juicy 1080p HD goodness for those of you with a capable PC, I bring you two games that I played earlier today. Maybe not particularly exciting games, but they were recorded live, which at least makes them twice as exciting as the other video I did. Enjoy!

EDIT: And here's part 2. Stupid Youtube with your stupid 15 minute limits...

#009 Progress...

See it yeah? That star was awarded for PWNAGE in the line of duty!

Yeah as you can see I'm now in the top 8, so hopefully I should be vying for promotion. There is no way to know if and when you're going to be promoted, the system just automatically does it when you're good enough.

So 5 matches in the last couple of days, 3 wins for 2 losses, as follows:

Game 1 - Protoss, Dark Templar, should have won but lost. Fnnnggghhh...
Game 2 - TvT, win.
Game 3 - TvT, win!
Game 4 - TvZ, win!!!
Game 5 - TvZ, lose :(

More games to play (and maybe cast??) later.

#008 I casted a game!!!

Check me out! I casted the aforementioned 6-pool defence. Don't think my commentary skills are up to much, but it was fun nontheless. More to come...

#007 UPDATE!!!

Ok so I haven't been very active blogging over the past few weeks. The good news is I fixed my computer, and have been playing plenty of Starcraft. Bad news? Well I guess its not bad, but I am in exactly the same position I was in the league before, 10th.

Finding my way into this illustrious top 8 really shouldn't be too hard, but unfortunately everyone else in the league seems to be playing exactly as many games as me, therefore staying ahead of me on points.

In the last 2 weeks my record is P44 W29 L15. Its difficult for me to figure my total record for the season as they've decided to remove the 'games played' and 'games lost' from the league, so I only know how many I've won. Which is annoying.

Anyway, my game is definitely improving. Here's a replay of me heroically defending against a Zerg six-pool.

My graphics card broked

My pc is currently suffering from graphics card knack, which has seen me spiral down to the murky depths of the lower half of the bronze league! Never fear though, I should be back in action later this week, and if the bonus pool works properly I should be back in a reasonable position in no time.
